This simulation allows students to practice the assessment and intervention procedures for various specialty nursing cases.
The sim is built upon a scalable framework that allows instructors to set up custom case scenarios by adjusting parameters from a data sheet, which specifies the correct and incorrect actions, the types of linked responses for user actions and the feedback given for each case.
BCIT Cases on LORA 3D visualization tool that allows students to see how sonographic images relate to anatomy.
Users can view the model in 3D, selectively show and hide anatomical layers, and choose from a set of preset transducer pathways to view the associated sonograms.
Carotid Artery Lower Body SectionsThis interactive 3D model allows users to adjust the collective and cyclic controllers to change the propellor swashplate and consequently see how the propellors' pitches are manipulated to direct airflow across the blades. Available as a web-based app (original version) and a Hololens experience.
The Hololens app was adapted by the CDM students as part of their graduating project.
Web app Hololens appStudents can dynamically adjust preload, contractility and afterload to see the anatomical changes in the heart that affect cardiac output. View heart flow through the heart in 3D.
Heart Failure - Frank Starling's Law Heart Infarctions Heart Anatomy Self-Quiz Normal HeartThis is a visualization tool to help perinatal care providers see the relationship of the fetus to the mother with respect to the "stations of the presenting part".
iPad App Link LinkSome video output showing my initial research in to the Hololens. Here, I'm reusing assets from the Perinatal Pal app and playing with model edge/surface detection, simple hand gesture controls for movement and rotation, and using 3D GUI elements with the 3D model.
A series of activities designed to help students learn heart sounds. Available as a learning tool and self-test tool. Breath sounds activity also available.
Learning Tool Self-Test ToolThis learning tool simulates a generic dialysis machine interface for learners to practice 'programming' a dialysis session according to the prescription.
Learners must be able to interpret the charts and prescription in order to calculate the correct dosage and timings of the dialysis events.
The activity is integrated within the D2L content page, where learners must first perform the appropriate calculations before starting.
Demo (without pre-calculation)This rail switching activity is a template that can be used within D2L Learning Hub. Instructors set the desired box car configurations and target configuration within D2L's editing mode.
Learners can practice the rail switching tasks and have their score (number of moves) and time submitted to the grade book in D2L for instructors to review.
* Optional: set up in Learning Hub to link to a grade object
Demo LinkThis model viewer would be ideal for parts familiarization/identification. The 3D model viewer has an interactive parts list and clickable parts that can be detached.
The framework is built so that 3d models (FBX format) can be easily imported and set up within Unity. In addition to basic familiarization, this framework can be adapted to be a self-test or sequential task activity. See some examples on the links below.
RR250 Engine Hand Anatomy Brain AnatomyA 3D model viewer framework for creating scene inspection activities.
DetailsThis is an example of a custom model explorer, where additional custom controls have been added to better simulate the functionality of the equipment. In addition to parts list and parts identification, users can also interact with the various knobs and handles to practice setting the Lathe.
Self-test: Lathe Settings ExploreSee gas exchange at the alveolar-capillary membrane, under varius ventilation and perfusion scenarios. Unlike frame by frame animation, elements in the animation are mathematically generated and can respond to changing conditions dynamically.
The examples below are available as HTML5 widgets (can be used within iPad iBooks or desktop browser).
Activity templates are also available for D2L, where instructors can specify questions and answers for each of the animation steps, rather then showing the default description.

V/Q ARDSThis animation shows an overview of the innate immune response to injury, highlighting the key pathways that may lead to the development of complications like sepsis and ARDS.
SepsisThis HTML5 template allows the instructor to create practice ECG strips with guiding questions for learner self-testing. The instructor must provide the appropriately-scaled ECG image, and set the correct answers in the associated data file.
Example3D visualizer to show lead placement for ECG on a body.
ExampleThe slider framework was developed so instructors can easily create labeled cross-section image sliders. In editor mode, instructors can create, edit, group and position labels for each slide; and define certain preset parameters for the slides.

DetailsInteractive panorama viewer, with hotspots that can load text, images, videos or custom behaviours.
LinkThis interactive 3D model helps students visualize the geometric relationships required for roof framing calculations. Students practice identifying the triangles, and making the calculations to determine the dimensions required for building the rafter and gable of the roof.
LinkWe've developed custom tools for marketing program students to plan the floorplan of a store. Students use the tool to design their store, then capture a screenshot for submission to D2L for discussion and justification of their design choices.
3D floor plan (legacy, requires Unity player)Students play the role of a new manager at a fictional company rife with motivational problems. In this role, they apply various motivation theories taught in the Organizational Behaviour and Principles of Management courses to increase employee productivity while staying within budget. Game players get to experience the consequences of managerial decisions: an increase or decrease of motivation and productivity. Students' are challenged to achieve the best productivity against the constraints of budget and time. Their scores are logged in a leaderboard, where they can compare their performance against the class.
Preview on D2L LORInteract with a 3D model of a bridge to see the component parts and associated details from the actual bridge construction. The viewer helps students visualize the construction process and gain a better understanding of materials and resources required when planning a building project.
